ABOUT THE EVENT

Greening Youth Foundation (GYF) Founder and CEO Angelou Ezeilo is working to change the face of conservation in the US by helping young people of color find meaningful outdoor careers. GYF’s signature program is its Youth Conservation Corps which has placed thousands of young people in conservation internships across the country.

Moderated by National Parks Conservation Association President and CEO Theresa Pierno, Angelou will talk about her work and her new book: Engage, Connect, Protect: Empowering Diverse Youth as Environmental Leaders. The fireside chat will be preceded by a networking reception for environmental advocates, professionals, and students interested in conservation. This event will include a raffle sponsored by Patagonia.

About the presenters:

 

Angelou Ezeilo is founder and CEO of the Greening Youth Foundation. She is an Ashoka Fellow, a member of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights’ Women in Solidarity Society, and is on the boards of the Atlanta Audubon Society and the South Fork Conservancy. She is also an advisor to the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, Outdoor Afro, Rachel's Network, and the Children’s Wellbeing Initiative. She splits her time between Atlanta, GA and Nigeria. 

 

 

 

 

Theresa Pierno is President and CEO of the National Parks Conservation Association. She joined NPCA in 2004 after a distinguished career in public service and natural resource protection, and has helped to solidify the organization's role as the voice of America's national parks. Theresa is also the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of America’s Great Waters Coalition, a group of 70 member organizations working together to protect and restore waters in and around our national parks that are central to the health of the ecosystem and the recreation of their visitors. Prior to joining NPCA, she served as a Vice President for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and Maryland Executive Director.
